| It can be said that a flowforming machine is built much the same as a flat-bed lathe. Since both are designed to produce round components, they each have the same major parts including a headstock, rotating spindle, tailstock and a carriage that travels longitudinally along ground bedways. The structure of a lathe is built to take the relatively light loads experienced in metal cutting. In contrast, the frames of the flowforming equipment are extremely robust and durable to prevent potential damage from the high torsional forces encountered in the flowforming process. All flowforming equipment is lagged down every few inches to specially-built foundations. In addition, larger equipment also have heavy duty upper frames that connect the two ends of the machine into a very rigid, box-like, vibration-free structure. Accurate radial displacement of the three roller axes as well as the tailstock's axial and lateral movement is provided by powerful hydraulic systems controlled by sophisticated CNCs. In some cases, the hydraulic unit also controls the longitudinal motion of the carriage via large recirculating ballscrews. |
